Core P.E. allows pupils to be active in an activity of their choice for 1 50 minute period a week.
Pupils who choose P.E. have the opportunity to study at N5 and Higher levels. Pupils will participate in a wide range of activities and study the 4 factors that affect performance, those are the Physical Factor, Mental Factor, Emotional Factor and the Social factor. N5 pupils will complete a portfolio whereas Higher pupils will sit an exam at the end of the year.
Pupils also have the opportunity to choose Exercise for Leadership where pupils will have the opportunity to study a range of ways to develop their fitness and lead peers through fitness sessions.
Higher Dance is available as a Level 6 qualification as part of the PE department and can support pupils who are wanting grades for university, or are looking to follow a career in performing arts or teaching. The course develops pupils technical ability in 2 contrasting dance styles, an understanding of the theory aspects of how each of these styles should be performed, along with the historical impacts shaping this style, and finally the knowledge to create their own dance, using leadership skills to teach this to a group of pupils.
